In the Therapist Consultation group, you will practice valuable cognitive therapy techniques, consult about cases, with a cognitive therapy training expert.

  • How to elicit reactions to the session
  • How to check in for understanding, reactions either verbal or non-verbal
  • How to summarize main points


Practicing Underlying Assumptions

February 24, 2024.        11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • How to focus on key thoughts, assumptions that are relevant to the problem being discussed
  • How to encourage Socratic questionning
  • How to encourage client exploration of new assumptions
  • Practice using therapist's cases


Setting up Action plans:

  • Consultation using therapist's cases
  • How to review previous action plans
  • Setting up action plans based on the session
  • Developing a "custom tailored"vs a "cookie cutter" action plan.

Note: Therapist Consultation group is a small, closed group of 4-6 participants maximum. There are no make up hours. Participants are responsible financially for any missed sessions. 

Note:  For pre-licensed individuals, consultation is not supervision. Consultation may count as training, depending on supervisor's approval. Recommend prior training in cognitive therapy.

  • Consultation using therapist's cases
  • Reviewing therapist's own stuck points in counseling clients
  • Identifying schemas, including most typical schemas

Using Emotional Techniques: Empty Chairs:
March 23, 2024.           1:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Consultation using therapist's cases
  • Therapist will practice a dialogue using empty chairs with either:
  • Schemas, emotions, decisions, relationships or encounters with others.

Using Emotional Techniques: Imagery: 

April 20, 2024.            1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Consultation using therapist's cases
  • Therapist will practice at least one imagery dialogue with either a person from childhood, or a current situation
  • How to follow an agenda or amend it

Using Emotional Techniques: Imagery: 
May 18, 2024.           1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Consultation using therapist's cases
  • Therapist will practice at least one imagery dialogue with either a person from childhood, or a current situation

Behavioral Experiments: Schema Change:
