In the Therapist Consultation group, you will practice valuable cognitive therapy techniques, consult about cases with a cognitive therapy training expert, members of your small group

Setting an Agenda:

  • Consult using therapist's cases
  • Set an agenda with target problems for a session.
  • Practice how to follow an agenda or amend it

Increasing Collaboration: 
January 11, 2025.           11:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • Consult using therapist's cases
  • Review how to elicit reactions to the session
  • Practice checking  in for understanding, reactions either verbal or non-verbal
  • Learn how to summarize main points


Practicing Underlying Assumptions

February 22, 2025.        11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

March 22, 2025.               11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • Review how to  focus on key thoughts, assumptions that are relevant to the problem being discussed
  • Review  Socratic questioning
  • Identify how to encourage client exploration of new assumptions
  • Practice using your own cases


Setting up Action plans: 
May 17 2025.           11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • Consult using therapist's case
  • Review previous action plans
  • Set up action plans based on the session
  • Develop a "custom tailored"vs a "cookie cutter" action plan.

Note: Therapist Consultation group is a small, closed group of 4-6 participants maximum. There are no make up hours. Participants are responsible financially for any missed sessions. 

Note:  For pre-licensed individuals, consultation is not supervision. Consultation may count as training, depending on supervisor's approval. Recommend prior training in cognitive therapy.

  • Identify schemas, including most typical schemas

Emotional Techniques: Empty Chairs:

  • Consult  focusing on  therapists' cases
  • Practice using  empty chairs  techniques: Schemas, emotions, decisions, relationships or encounters with others.

Using Emotional Techniques: Imagery: Consult using

February 22, 2025 .            1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Consult using therapist's cases
  •  Practice at least one imagery dialogue with either a person from childhood, or a current situation
  • Discuss how to follow an agenda or amend it
